Rites held for retired teacher Louise Glidewell Nevitt, 92
04/21/2001 By Joe Simnacher / The Dallas Morning News Services were Wednesday at Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas for retired study-hall teacher Mary Louise Glidewell Nevitt. Mrs. Nevitt, 92, died Saturday at ManorCare Nursing Home in Dallas after a series of strokes. She will be buried in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Mrs. Nevitt was born on a farm in Cooper, Texas, one of five children. In 1918, she moved with her family to Oak Cliff, where she grew up and attended public schools. Mrs. Nevitt worked for more than 20 years as a nurse's assistant for Oak Cliff Medical Clinic and later the Physicians and Surgeons Clinic in Oak Cliff, said her son, John Nevitt of Dallas. In 1965, she left the clinic and became a study-hall teacher at T.W. Browne Junior High School, now T.W. Browne Middle School. She retired in 1975. Mrs. Nevitt was active in her church and PTA and volunteered for more than 20 years at Methodist Medical Center. "She couldn't sit still; she wanted to work," her son said. Mrs. Nevitt was a longtime member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church and the East Kessler Book Club. She was a lifetime member of the Texas PTA and past president of the James S. Hogg Elementary PTA. She was also active in PTAs where her sons attended: W.E. Greiner Junior High, which is now Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy, W.H. Adamson High School, Rosemont Elementary and Sunset High School. In addition to her son, Mrs. Nevitt is survived by another son, Joseph L. Nevitt of Fort Worth; two sisters, Gene Murphy of Kilgore, Texas, and Ruth Spray of Cedar Hill; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. |
