Email Notes.......2002

It was great to see some distantly-familiar faces on the pictures of the 50 Years Old Party. I want to thank you for all the work you put into the website, and I was very glad for email that reminded me to look at the website. So sorry to learn of Wayne Kofnovec's passing. I'm fairly sure no one remembers me, since I haven't been to an alumni function since graduation. I live in Tulia, 50 miles south of Amarillo, and about 75 miles north of Lubbock. If you are ever passing through Swisher County, give me a call. Maybe someday I can work out a trip to Dallas to coincide with an event, but to be honest, I probably would not have anyone to visit with, and I am a single mom with a junior at Texas Tech, and a senior in high school. I teach government and economics at Tulia High School, and am a part-time professor at Amarillo College.

Got to go-it's homecoming tonight for THS, and the students are hyper!

Bev,
Just happened to look at the class of 70 lost Knights and found that Wayne Kofnovec had passed away.   Even in high school he was a kind wonderful person who we all admired.  He will be greatly missed.

Hope you are doing well.

I hope to come to Dallas this Christmas season to visit family and would really like to see some of the gang.

Tell everyone hello for me.

See ya.

Howdy!

After 20+ years of bow & muzzleloader hunting elk in Colorado, I finally got a nice 5X5 bull.  (See attached photo)

My son, Chad (20 years old), and I hunted the Little Flat Tops Wilderness Area of Rout National Park in Colorado last week and had a blast.  We got caught in a snow storm that collapsed our tent and made hunting tough, but we managed to team up on this bull and scored.  We saw a total of 11 bulls on this hunt and Chad even bugled in a spike bull (illegal; must be 4 points or better) to within 15 yards of him on Monday the 16th.

Thursday evening the 19th I was set-up about 80 yards above Chad in the rocky top rim of the timber mountain he was bow hunting.  I spotted the bull and a cow coming up through the deep timber and alerted Chad via walkie-talkie.  Using a cow chirp call I brought the bull up to within 60 yards of Chad before they winded him.  Chad needed a 40 yards shot max.  I fired my 54 caliber muzzleloader after the bull had turned and began to run back into deep timber.  We estimate he weighed between 800 & 900 pounds taking 3 trips to pack out all the meat.

Still, I wouldn't have bagged the bull if it hadn't been for Chad.  Earlier that morning we went fishing in the snow and was having a fresh trout lunch when Chad asked me if I thought my black powder was still dry after all the sleet & snow we had endured for the past two days, so I decided to fire a test shot, which misfired!  Also that afternoon we began our 1000+ feet climb back to the top and I was sore & worn out after 5 days of these climbs.  I told Chad to go on without me and I would rest up for the next day climb/hunt, but Chad said "No way Dad, we'll take more rest stops and do this together" emphasizing this is what we came here for.  Chad's persistence in getting my 50 years old carcass back up on top the snowy mountain paid off to make my life long dream come true!

To whom all this may concern.

I just wanted to take a moment and give a special "thank-you" to all those  responsible for starting, maintaining, and keeping the Kimball  Class of 1970 a reality. There is so much to learn from our "family" of 30+ years ago and what they have done these past years, and it  is a real joy just to visit the page. I had not visited it in a while and I was very much amazed  (and impressed) by the wealth of information as well as the "keeping up"  with the current events in our lives.

It is good to know when a former classmate of ours has passed on and, for me, makes me appreciate being alive and knowing that we did know that person when he/she was still alive. It is sad to hear such news  but I am grateful that someone takes the time to inform us.

I attended the 30th reunion (which was my first) primarily from the  information found in the website and the excellent way in which it  is presented. I have not attended any other functions (as yet) but it really is an excellent means to keep in touch with old friends, see what  they have become, and just reminisce old times !!

Thanks for the great work, to all responsible, and since all of us  now should be 50 years old....I hope that the web-site, our contact  base, and the general "closeness" that our class had will last another 50 years.

Thanks again for all your hard work.

Wayne Kofnovec

Sanguinet called me back and said that the funeral would be Sunday at Kotch Funeral Home, 510 E. Oak St., West, TX at 1:00. Viewing will be Saturday from 6-8:00.
I asked if he knew how he died and he said that Mike had been in poor health for a number of years. He had diabetes and had come down with pneumonia a couple of weeks ago. He had been retaining water pretty badly and they figure that his heart just gave out. ~~ Janet

Sad news indeed.

One of my more vivid memories from KK days involved Wayne.

First day of football practice (August...senior year) he and I showed up with beards (such as they were...he had a good one...mine was 1/2 actual beard and 1/2 fuzz).

Coach Miller had us both go in the equipment cage and dry shave with a razor (that was used to shave ankles before taping). As I recall, the razor was leftover from spring practices four months previous....talk about DULL.!!!

Then we had a 90 minute in-shorts walkthrough in the hot August sun (first day was no pads). T'weren't fun...lemmetellya.

I'll hoist a cold one to Wayne's memory this weekend at the farm.

Hope all's well. - gnb

Wayne played fullback in the year that "Was" for the Kimball Knights
football season of 1969. Wayne was a big man and a very tough man to
handle on the gridiron or anywhere else as far as that goes. I can
remember him playing one whole half of a football game with a
collapsed lung and the harder they came at him the meaner he became.
The nickname "Rhino" fit him perfectly.....in fact he had personalized
license plates that stated the same. Wayne was loved by all that knew
him and his passing is hard blow to all.
God Bless You Wayne Kofnovec.

Services for Wayne Kofnovec will be held this coming Sunday at 1:00 at
the Kotch Funeral Home in West, Tx. That is just south of Hillsboro
and a bit north of Waco. The address is 510 E.Oak. Mike Sanguinet
has requested that any of the 1969/1970 football team members that
wish to be pallbearers please be there. I for one will be there along
with Steve Pollard. I am sure any track team member would be more
than welcome to assist in laying our dear friend to rest.

Hello,

I'd like for you to add my sister's name to your "Lost Nights" list. Her name was Carla Annette Watts and she passed away on April 24, 2001. She graduated from Kimball with the class of 1981. If I would have know about this then, I would have told you back then. Could you put her on the list. Thanks in advance, Alfonso Watts

I just want to tell you again what a GREAT job you and the rest put forth. It was good to see you. Take care and see you at the next get together.  K Oliphant Froelich

I am sure glad I was able to make it Saturday. I thought the party was great. Saw people I had not seen since Kimball. Really had a good time.

You, Janet and all those involved in putting this together are to be commended. I know it is not an easy job to organize and coordinate an event, let alone 3. Sorry I could only attend on Saturday but, one day was worth it. Again, thanks to all involved in pulling this off.

Please forward to Janet and all those involved.
