Gayla, I just wanted to let you know of my dad's death, Eugene E. Kribbs. He died on Jan 24 of cancer at the age of 84. Even though he taught at SOC, some of the guys might remember him because he was the golf coach there. He taught at SOC for 17 years then was at the adult vocational school for 7 years. The obit was in the Abilene Reporter News,

Many of us will remember Kimball's basketball coach Orr (there only in 67-68). Now head coach (for many years) @ Navarro College in Corsicana, he was injured seriously in van accident Monday evening driving his basketball team back from a game in Paris. Two of his players were killed and two more were Care Flighted to Dallas.

In a spare moment we might want to send good thoughts his way. Aside from his own injuries (which we certainly hope he fully recovers from) I'm sure he's devastated over the deaths of his players. - gnb

Yes, I was there when Lewis was coaching at Kimball........I saw that in the paper today too........It is the same Coach Orr that we all knew....what a tragedy, he was in the van that got hit--he is a lucky person not to have been injured/killed.

Hi. Hope this note finds you well. I have moved to McKinney and my computer went on the fritz. It lost all my log ins for everything except my personal email. I got an email from my old friend from Stockard and he told me that Jan Chesnut died last month. I don't have all the facts on how she died or the exact date. Could you please put it on the Kimball website so if there are any old Stockard Junior High people still around maybe they know more about her death? I would greatly appreciate it. I am emailing you to ask you to remember us in your prayers. Patty's Dad was killed in a car wreck last night. Her mother has Alzheimer's and was injured but will probably be released from the hospital later today. Adrian Cody was 2 days shy of his 80th birthday. But God was good in that Patty and our friend Val, who he treated like a daughter, both talked to Adrian just a couple of hours before he died.

Arrangements are pending. There will be an autopsy, so we don't know what the arrangements will be until his body is released. God bless you all.

Don Pardue's father passed away on Sunday, February 23rd, 2003. Our hearts are with him. We would like to thank Don for the work that he does for us for our reunion and birthday events. He has always been there when we need him.

My closest earthly friend, my brother in spirit, Stan Carroll, passed away in his sleep at 4:00 AM December 24, 2002.

Gayla, you might want to post this on the website for anyone who knew Marian Hutton. Her 2 year old grandson, Hunter Barnett, fell into his parent's swimming pool and drowned. He died on Marian's 50th birthday which was May 3rd. The obituary is in the Dallas Morning News May 6th edition. I know she would appreciate any cards or wishes from anyone who might have been friends with her at Kimball. Her mailing address is Marian Wafer, 4220 Ash Crest, Mesquite TX 75150.

On Sunday, August,6 2001, Mike Elliott passed away from a massive heart attack. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 9, 2001 at 10:00 am at David Clayton and Sons in Duncanville.

Judy Day, Jan Day's sister passed away on July 30, 2001. Service to be held on August 2, 2001 at Laurel Land.

1-18-2001 I read in last Sunday's paper that Adona Trent, a girl I knew and who went to Kimball, who would have graduated in '70, died suddenly at her home in Maypearl, Tx. I do not have any other details.

RITES TODAY FOR WILLIAM P. DURRETT, 93

Memorial services for William P. "Bill" Durrett, the first principal of Kimball High School, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Burial services were Friday at Laurel Land Mausoleum and Memorial Park. The 47-year veteran of the Dallas school district died Dec. 23 at a local hospital. He was 93.

Mr. Durrett began his career in the Dallas Independent School District in 1930 as a history teacher and coach at what is now Adamson High School. In 1941, he became one of the few people in the district to simultaneously hold the position of the principal at two schools, Margaret B. Henderson and Winnetka Elementary schools.

While he was principal of Winnetka, his son, William R. "Bob" Durrett, was a student. "He knew I was in trouble before I did," Bob Durrett said. The younger Mr. Durrett has followed in his father's educational footsteps, serving as the current principal of Richard Lagow Elementary School in the Dallas district.

In 1952, Mr. Durrett, "Papa D" to many of his students, became principal of Boude Story Middle School, working there until 1958, when he was chosen to become the first principal of Kimball High School. He remained at Kimball until his retirement in 1974. Bob Durrett said his father was a strict but compassionate man when it came to his students. "If you worked, and you tried, and you did everything you could, he was the softest touch," he said.

He said his father especially enjoyed working in high schools because of the extracurricular activities, which he felt kept some students from dropping out of school. He said Mr. Durrett thought that students who were particularly academically inclined might find an affinity for band, choir, sports or some other school program and that to stay in the program, they'd stay in school. He said his father didn't sway from a strict no-pass, no-play policy - in effect in his schools years before it became a law.

In addition to his son, Mr. Durrett is survived by a daughter, Barbara Stidham of Sonoma Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Linda Kaye Starnes
Linda Williams was a year ahead of us. I am sure that most of you remember her.
STARNES, LINDA KAYE (GRANNY). Born January 6, 1951; passed away January 20, 2004. Preceded in death by her mother, Joy Elizabeth Williams and her brother, David Williams. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend. She will be missed by all that knew her and loved her. Her memory will remain at heart. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Steven D. Starnes; son, S. Blake Starnes and wife, Casey; daughter, Britney Starnes Soladay and husband Ryan; son, Brad Gipson Starnes; grandchildren: B. Carter Starnes and Trystan E. Soladay. She is also survived by her father, David C. Williams and Sue Cates; sisters: Lisa Groso and husband Mike; and Lori West and husband Scott.
