Tejano’s Mexican Restaurant on Davis was the location of the final planning meeting for the 2002 Oak Cliff Reunion to be held Saturday, November 16, at Cutter’s in Duncanville. Chief organizer and Oak Cliff native, Christian Brooks, along with 1970 Kimball High School graduates Stephanie Stanley, Beverly Davis, and Gayla Mitchell, and Kimball ’74 graduate Ronny Paulk are reviving the Oak Cliff Reunion tradition after a thirteen year hiatus. Five previous reunions were held between l986 and l989 at various Oak Cliff and Southwestern Dallas County locations.

“It’s all about reuniting with classmates and old friends,” said the 52 year old Brooks, a member of the David W. Carter Class of 1969. “We want to celebrate our Oak Cliff heritage and history and renew old friendships—experience that old feeling again.”

The event will begin at 4:00 pm and continue until 2:00 am. All 1950’s through 1970’s graduates from the
five Oak Cliff high schools (Kimball, Carter, Adamson, Sunset, and South Oak Cliff) are invited to attend.

Scheduled entertainment includes The Jonny Peebles Band, Jim Hutton and the Blues Hunters, 7th Son, The
Mike McCullough Band, and Brooks’s own group, The Christian Brooks Band.

Brooks recently returned from Albuquerque where he was one of the opening groups for B. B. King at King’s New
Mexico concert and March of Dimes fundraiser. Along with his first CD slated for release after the first of the year, one of Brooks’s songs is currently being recorded by Arkansas blues singer and guitarist Michael Burks.
